How annoying and ugly are those weeds that pop up in between your pavers?
Like to know the best ways to get rid of them?
You’ll find five different methods listed below.
These methods apply equally to your driveway, your pathways, patio, courtyard – in fact wherever your have brick, stone, or concrete paving.
They are in order – of least expense; and most time and effort needed.
(So if you’re interested in the fastest and easiest way, just scroll to the bottom…)
So here they are:
1. Pull the weeds out by hand.

That’s right, get down on your hands and knees, grip the weed (as low as possible) firmly between your thumb and forefinger, and pull it out. Repeat until you’re finished (or you’ve had enough).
Not my personal favourite, as it takes a lot of time and effort, but it does eventually achieve the result, and it is inexpensive.
2. A screwdriver and a bucket.

On your hands and knees again with this one I’m afraid. Closely related to the method above, but with the introduction of a tool.
Use the screwdriver to scrape along the cracks and loosen the weed so you can pull it out (if possible), or to just cut the top off. Repeat until you’re finished (or you’ve had enough).
When I was a lot younger, I had friends whose parents used to make them do this. It took time but it did get the job done. And it was cheap!
But again, not a personal favourite.
3. Use a shovel or a spade.

At least you’re on your feet for this.
Being careful not to chip, scrape or otherwise damage your pavers – move the shovel/spade across the weeds at the paver level to cut the top off them. Again, repeat until complete.
I’ve seen some people use this quite successfully, and I’ve also seen some people do damage to their pavers.
For this reason, it’s not my preferred method in most situations.
4. Use a brushcutter.

I like this method as it can be quite quick (relative to the other methods), and the nylon line is generally easier on the pavers than steel tools are.
And, if you’re dealing with many more, and much larger, weeds than the little fellas shown in the photos, it can be a GREAT method; especially if you’re using a big, powerful brushcutter.
HOWEVER, if you’re not VERY careful, it can be fraught with danger.
The brushcutter head rotates very quickly, and it can send things (like rocks) flying at high speed.
These things can injure the operator, other people, pets and can damage property (especially windows!).
So be warned, it can be a really efficient method, but you have to be very, very careful; and take a lot of precautions prior to using it. (Do your own risk assessment prior to using it!)
5. Get someone else to do it.
The last, and for many people, perhaps the best, method. Certainly it is the easiest, cleanest, and least time consuming of all of them.
You can get ‘Perth Garden Clean Up’ to do it for you. We do this sort of work all the time.

‘Perth Garden Clean Up’ specialises in cleaning up overgrown gardens, including removing weeds from paving.
